Components for diesel and gas engines

The GALI air starters are intended for use on internal combustion engines and gas turbines.

 For their size and weight, these starters are extremely powerful, and additionally feature high torque, high speed, low air consumption and reduced maintenance.

 GALI starters can be operated at a pressure ranging from 3/4 MPa (30/40 bar) as the maximum and minimum working pressures depend on installation conditions.

The rapid response and the high speed of the GALI starters ensure that engines attain their ignition speed virtually instantly, thereby increasing the efficiency of the starting operation.

Since GALI starters require no external lubrication there is also no need for external pump lubricators which means a cleaner and more ecological installation area that is easier to maintain. They are additionally very resistant to humidity, saline atmosphere, and vibration, and they are unaffected by extreme temperatures.

GALI starters are successfully implemented in a widest range of applications including marine engines (propulsion and auxiliary) generator sets, conventional and nuclear power plants, military, locomotives, offshore, mining, etc.

Our starters are homologated by Bureau Veritas, Lloyd’s Register, Germanischer Lloyds & American Bureau of Shipping.

Air starter

Air starter A17

The type A17 air starter is generally used for starting internal combustion engines of an approximate rating of up to 300 kW (400 HP), although the suitability depends, in practice, on the engine capacity, number of cylinders and the ratio of the driving pinion to the flywheel ring gear.

The A17 is usually supplied with pinion and flange and does not need external lubrication. It is lubrication free.

They are successfully used in: emergency generating sets, motor pumps, auxiliary ship engines, forklift or other industrial vehicles.

Air starter A27

The type A27 air starter is generally used for starting internal combustion engines of an approximate range of ratings of 220 to 1100 kW (300 to 1500 HP), although the suitability depends, in practice, on the engine capacity, number of cylinders and the ratio of the driving pinion to the flywheel ring gear.
The A27 is usually supplied with pinion and flange and does not need external lubrication. It is lubrication free.
They are successfully used in: emergency generating sets, motor pumps, auxiliary ship engines, forklift or other industrial vehicles.

Air starter A27LP

The new model A27LP air starter is intended to start diesel or gas engines of an approximate power range of 220-1100 kW (300-1475 HP), although its suitability depends on the engine displacement and the ratio between the engine’s ring gear and starter’s pinion.

The A27LP model is a pre-engaged type starter with start overrunning safety integrated and lubrication-free. This new model provides the well know advantages of Gali starters due to its reliability in the harshest environments and its high starting torque.

The A27LP type is designed to work at low air pressure installations maintaining the traditional Gali’s rotors technology. They are ideal for new installations as well as to easily retrofit existing installations with problematic vane and turbine starters. The A27LP starters are available for clockwise and counterclockwise rotation and are successfully used in Generating Sets, Motor-Pump Sets, Marine Propulsion & Auxiliary Engines, Industrial Engines, Locomotives, Forklift Truck Engines, Bulldozers, Offshore-Sea Platform, Nuclear & Power Plants, Mines.

Air starter A28

The new model A28 air starter is intended to start diesel or gas engines of an approximate power range of 500-2200 kW (670- 2950 HP), although its suitability finally depends on the engine displacement and the ratio between the engine’s ring gear and starter’s pinion.

The A28 model is a pre-engaged type starter with start overrunning safety integrated and lubrication-free. This new model provides the well know advantages of Gali starters due to its reliability in the harshest environments and its high starting torque.

The A28 starters are available for clockwise and counterclockwise rotation and are successfully used in Generating Sets, Motor-Pump Sets, Marine Propulsion & Auxiliary Engines, Industrial Engines, Locomotives, Forklift Truck Engines, Bulldozers, Offshore-Sea Platform, Nuclear & Power Plants, Mines.

Slow Turning Starting System

Our Slow Turning is the best solution to prevent engine water stroke due to water or oil leakage inside the cylinders. Saving cost and problems to operators and final costumers.

The working concept

Initial turning stage at low speed to check for anomalies. If any adverse conditions are found, the starting sequence is stopped. If not, Gali Starter will accelerate the engine to start it.

It consists of a variable torque supplying from the starter to the engine.

• The starter will stop giving torque when the set point slow turn speed is reached and will provide torque again when the speed starts to decrease below the set point.

• This will result in a constant speed rotation of the engine.

• The system’s input is the engine speed from an inductive sensor (delivered) placed on the engine ring gear.

Air starter S30

The type S30 air starter has been developed to start internal combustion Diesel and gas engines, Diesel and Gas, of a power range from 750 to 3200 kW (1020 to 4350 HP), although the suitability depends, in practice, on the engine capacity, number of cylinders and the ratio of the driving pinion to the flywheel ring gear.

The S30 is usually supplied with pinion and flange and does not need external lubrication. It is lubrication-free.

Air starter S38

The type S38 air starter belongs to the new generation of GALI Starters, to cover all the range of engine powers.

The S38 is intended to start internal combustion Diesel and Gas engines of a power range from 900 to 3800 kW (1210 to 5100 HP), although the suitability depends, in practice, on the engine capacity, number of cylinders and the ratio of the driving pinion to the flywheel ring gear.

The S38 is usually supplied with pinion and flange and does not need external lubrication. It is lubrication free.

They are successfully used in: power plant gent sets, propulsion and auxiliary marine engines, emergency generating sets, motor pumps…

Air starter A47

The type A47 air starter is generally used for starting internal combustion engines of an approximate range of ratings of 1100 to 4400 kW (1500 to 6000 HP), although the suitability engine depends, in practice, on the engine capacity, number of cylinders and the ratio of the driving pinion to the flywheel ring gear.

The A47 is usually supplied with pinion and flange and does not need external lubrication. It is lubrication free.

Its high torque and resistance to the adverse atmosphere conditions (saline, humidity, extreme temperature,…) make him the most reliable starter to install in: power plant gent sets, gas turbines, propulsion engines, heavy-duty diesel engines.

Also available our A47 in ‘Z’ version to fit in reduce spaces.

Air starter A48

With the A48, GALI continues to increase the torque of its starters, now covering more powerful engines. This increase in the torque is achieved by means of an increase in internal reduction. The A48 air starter, with its 640 Nm torque, is generally used for starting internal combustion engines -Diesel, Gas or Fuel- of power ratings from 3.500 to 7.000 kW (4.750 to 9.520 HP).

Its 'Z' the shaped structure allows the incorporations of this starter in engines with complex and reduced side spaces. All the traditionally advantages offer by GALI, with its air rotors and lubrication-free starters, are maintained in this model, such are: pre-engagement system, high acceleration speed, lightweight…

Its high torque and resistance to the adverse atmosphere conditions (saline, humidity, extreme temperature,…) make him the most reliable starter to install in: power plant gent sets, gas turbines, propulsion engines, heavy-duty diesel engines.

Air Starter G300

This range of starter is designed to start internal combustion engines from 750 up to 3200 kW (1020 to 4350 HP) with a compact design to allow maximum clearance for engine components.

This new air starter is an evolution of actual S30 type improved to reduce maintenance operations and increase lifetime.

Air Starter A15

The type A15 air starter is generally used for starting internal combustion engines of an approximate rating of up to 300 kW (400 HP), although the suitability depends, in practice, on the engine capacity, number of cylinders and the ratio of the driving pinion to the flywheel ring gear.

The A15 is usually supplied with an external oil lubricator, pinion and flange.

They are successfully used in: emergency generating sets, motor pumps, auxiliary ship engines, forklift or other industrial vehicles.

Air Starter A16

The type A16 air starter is generally used for starting internal combustion engines of an approximate rating of up to 300 kW (400 HP), although the suitability depends, in practice, on the engine capacity, number of cylinders and the ratio of the driving pinion to the flywheel ring gear.

The type A25 air starter is generally used for starting internal combustion engines of an approximate range of ratings of 220 to 1100kW (300 to 1500HP), although the suitability depends, in practice, on the engine capacity, number of cylinders and the ratio of the driving pinion to the flywheel ring gear.

The A25 is usually supplied with an external oil lubricator, pinion and flange.

They are successfully used in: emergency generating sets, motor pumps, auxiliary ship engines, forklift or other industrial vehicles.

Air Starter A45

The type A45 air starter is generally used for starting internal combustion engines of an approximate range of ratings of 1100 to 4400 kW (1500 to 6000 HP), although the suitability depends, in practice, on the engine capacity, number of cylinders and the ratio of the driving pinion to the flywheel ring gear.

The A45 is usually supplied with an external oil lubricator, pinion and flange.

Retrofit

GALI provides complete retrofit kits for replacing other air starters on the market where 30 bars of air pressure is available.

Our starters are connected directly to the main air supply pipe after removing problematic reduction valves and other elements.

Kits

GALI manufactures a wide range of kits specially designed to be incorporate into each engine type.
Upon request, our technical department will desing a new kit suitable for your engine using our CAD system technology.

The basic components are: starter, solenoid valve, driving pinion, coupling flange, air filter and air pipe connection.

Air starter ATEX-IECEX

We supply all our air starters in explosion-proof version to ensure a safe starting for all engines running in hazardous environments.

We have the expertise to provide complete starting solutions for diesel and gas engines; we also offer explosion proof protection for industrial vehicles in compliance with European ATEX regulations. Our extensive knowledge of both markets and products has enabled us to develop the best technical ATEX starters available on the market.

All of our starters are certified according the ATEX 94/9/EC and IECEx directives. We have in-house testing facilities to ensure top quality throughout all steps of our manufacturing process.

SL6 Lubricator
This servolubricator has been especially designed to be used with the GALI air starters. Yet it may also be employed for the Iubrication of any kind of pneumatic circuit operating intermittently.

Fog lubricator
Ideal to lubricate the direct starting system. Easy assembly in the main air pipe line.
When there is an air consumption in the main pipe, a depression is created and during a short time the oil of the tank, pushed by the air, is injected by an internal nozzle until the pressure in the pipe and in the tank is equilibrate.

To make a new oil injection, it is necessary to stop the air consumption on the pipe and come again.
It is not necessary to stop the air on the main pipe to fill up the oil tank. It is enough to unscrew the gauge plug, so the air valve close itself and the tank is at the atmospheric pressure.

The oil valve assure the oil tightness from the nozzle.

Air shut off valves

The hydrocarbons which are potentially present in the atmosphere can become a real problem when attempting to make a controlled stop of an internal combustion engine.

These hydrocarbons may be sucked in by the engine air intake system producing acceleration and loss of speed control with the subsequent risk of explosion or deflagration. The ordinary stopping methods (for example, shutting of the fuel flow) may be quite useless, leaving the engine running without any possibility of stopping.

The GALI valve allows the automatic closing of the engine’s air intake, increasing safety in places such as offshore oil platforms, engine rooms on-board ships and on land, and petrochemical refineries and plants.

Engine turning mechanism

FOR ENGINE BUILD-UP AND SERVICE WORK

Our engine turning mechanism has been designed to slowly rotate the engine crankshaft (left /right) and to lock it in any needed position.

Engine manufacturers, at the end of the new engine assembly stage and marine operators during alignment and maintenance works, need to slow turn the engine crankshaft to into a precisely position. The Gali turning mechanism allows to carry out these jobs in the most accurate and safe way (self-locking device).

This tool is generally mounted on the engine flywheel housing by means of an SAE flange, but also can be attached to the engine with a separate bracket in the case of temporary installation.

The turning device consists of two main components, the main gear body and the driving unit.

The main gear body features a gear that drives a sliding axis supporting a pinion to engage manually into the flywheel. The drive unit, with the worm gear allows a high reduction (39:1 and 62:1) features a shaft end to which the drive torque is applied.

It can be driven by pneumatic or electric drives, and thanks to its high reduction ratio, it is possible also to turn engines of quite large dimension by hand.

Hydraulic starter

The Hydraulic Starters are mainly used to start diesel engines generally emergency sets for marine, oil and gas, off-shore, etc.

Very reliable as an emergency starting system, because it is a closed and independent circuit with few mechanisms.

The hydraulic starting unit can be activated manually so it is a solution when there is no external energy available.

It can be used under extreme environmental conditions just using the suitable hydraulic oil.

Unaffected when stopped for long periods of inactivity, even being under damp and hostile environmental, due to its closed and sealed design that don’t allow the entrance of dirt inside. The unit is always ready to start the engine.

Compressor & Hydraulic station

The GALI compressors (30/40 bars) are air-cooled and two or three stages, depending on model, with piston system. The compressors have splash lubrication system and its low speed ensures a better life to the compressor. The GALI compressors are made of cast iron which ensures a better heat exchange and the best mechanical function.

The compressor drive is made by one or more pulleys to ensure a regular speed between 600 and 950 rpm. Each equipment has a water/oil separator and its non-return valve.

Our compressors can be equipped with electric or diesel engines according the installations requirement.

We usually supply our air compressors for ONSHORE and OFFSHORE markets and also we supply to others traditional markets such as hospitals, power plants, ships, supermarkets, etc.

Ex Explosion proof products protection according ATEX directive

GALI, with more than 30 years of experience in the field, has become a specialist in the protection of forklift trucks and other vehicles enabling them to operate in potentially explosive atmospheres (ATEX). There are a big number of industrial processes that involve the manufacture and handling of products that generate gases and dust that, when mixed with air, can create an explosive atmosphere.

In this situation, any detonator, such as an electrical arc, mechanical sparks, hot exhaust gases, static electricity, hot electrical engines, etc., could cause an explosion.

Since 2003, the European Directive ATEX 2014/34/EU obliges companies to define these Zones and to protect all apparatus, installations mobile equipment that works within them, under the liability of owners, executives and heads of health and safety. The Directive ATEX 2014/34/EU, known as ATEX, specifies the requirements for all equipment sold for use in Zones defined as possible potentially explosive atmospheres.

As a specialist in the protection of industrial vehicles, GALI has developed its range of explosion proof protections with full guarantee of its transformations compliance with the ATEX 2014/34/EU.

Electrical Galitex-Cat2-Cat3 (zone 1 & 2)

The GALITEX protection has been developed according to the regulations of the ATEX directive 2014/34/EU and the norm EN 1755 under the requirements for CATEGORY 2G or 3G.

This protection allows electrical vehicles to operate in hazardous areas classified as Zone 1 or 2, where the GASES IIA, IIB, IIB+H2 or IIB+C2H2 or IIB+H2+C2H2 can be present in the atmosphere. The temperature according specifications.

The GALITEX conversion includes the modification of all systems and equipment to comply with the ATEX directive. The elements which might have ignition sources, like hot surfaces, hot exhaust gases, mechanical and electrical sparks, etc. are protected and/or modified with different type of protections (flameproof protection (Ex d), Increased Safety (Ex e), Intrinsic Safety (Ex i), Encapsulation (Ex m), etc.

The vehicle continues working with the presence of gases in the atmosphere.

Electrical Galidux-Cat2-Cat3 (zone 21 & 22)

The GALIDUX protection has been developed according to the regulations of the ATEX directive 2014/34/EU and the norm EN 1755 under the requirements for CATEGORY 2D or 3D.

This protection allows electrical vehicles to operate in hazardous areas classified as Zone 21 or 22, where the DUST classified as IIIA, IIIB or IIIC can be present in the atmosphere. The temperature will be according to specifications.

The GALIDUX conversion includes the modification of all systems and equipment to comply with the ATEX directive. The elements which might have ignition sources, like hot surfaces, hot exhaust gases, mechanical and electrical sparks, etc. are protected and/or modified with a different type of protection against dust (Protection by Enclosure (Ex tb), increased safety (Ex e) Intrinsic Safety (Ex i), Encapsulation (Ex m), etc.

The vehicle continues working with the presence of dust in the atmosphere.

The GALIGAS conversion includes the modification of all systems and equipment to comply with the ATEX directive. The elements which might have ignition sources, like hot surfaces, hot exhaust gases, mechanical and electrical sparks, etc. are protected and/or modified with different type of protections (Non Sparking Equipment (Ex nA), Restricted Breathing Enclosures (Ex nR), Enclosed Break Device (Ex nC), etc.

The vehicle do NOT continue working with gas in the atmosphere

Zone definition

INDUSTRY
Three basic data are required to define the necessary protection.

ZONE
In which there are potentially explosive atmospheres.

TEMPERATURE
Based on the gases or dust potentially present, the vehicle should be protected to ensure it does not reach detonation temperature.
This maximum surface temperature does not depend on the classified Zone, but rather, on the gases or dust present.

GROUP OF GASES
The gases that can be found in the industry today are divided into three groups, based on their physical properties; for example: minimum ignition energy, etc.

ATEX elements and equipment maintenance

Pneumatic starters ATEX-IECEX

We supply all our air starters in explosion-proof version to ensure a safe starting for all engines running in hazardous environments.

On installations with diesel engines in hazardous areas, we supply our range of air shut off valves for the engine protection in ATEX version.

We ensure a very reduced installation space on the engine, free maintenance and high reliability.

Alternators ATEX-IECEX

GALI flameproof alternators are designed to be installed on category 2GD IIA-IIB (Zone 1, 2 or 21, 22) in accordance with the ATEX directive.

The GALI alternators can operate with engines working in potentially explosive atmospheres with the presence of gas, vapour or dust, replacing the standard alternators under these conditions.

They are available in 12V/35A and 24V/15A for continuous working.

Starter battery ATEX-IECEX

GALI Starting Battery, for category 2GD gas or dust IIC / IIIC and I M2 for the use in mining applications under the ATEX directive 2014/34/EU.

The starting battery is designed to be used in hazardous areas with the presence of gas, dust, vapor mist or coal mining.

It is designed to be installed in all kind of industrial applications, even stationary or mobile, with the electrical values of 12/24V with a battery capacity cell from 35 to 225 Ah.

Flameproof battery connectors ATEX-IECEX

GALI flameproof battery connectors, category 2GD IIB H2+ C2H2 for classified zones 1, 2, 21 and 22 in accordance with ATEX directive.

The connectors are designed to operate in machinery that are working in hazardous areas due to the presence of gas, vapor or dust.

It is designed to work in all types of industrial machinery, even stationary or mobile, with a maximum operating current of 300A at 90V.

Flameproof internal combustion engine ATEX-IECEX

GALI has developed a new range of internal combustion engine under the ATEX directive based on the EN1834-1, EN11834-2 and EN1834-3 European standards to convert the existing engines on the market.

The range allows to protect internal combustion engines up to 300kW, with a maximum displacement of 36L, this engine can be equipped with or without turbocharger systems.

This protection guarantees that the engine can work in hazardous areas without ignition risk, with and ambient temperature range between -25 to + 60ºC.

This protection has been approved by the Notified body Albarubens with the certificate ATEX Nº AR16ATEX010X.

GALI protection offers the possibility to install a catalytic flame arrester to reduce the exhaust emission and this solution allows to increase the working time without maintenance on the engine.

Electrical Starters ATEX-IECEX

We protect electric starters so they can be installed on industrial vehicles and diesel engines operating in hazardous areas with presence of explosive gases.

Our protections comply with the ATEX directive 2014/34/EU.

The protection is carried out according to the required zone (Zone 1/2) and the elements are protected Exd or nR according to the needed category.

The starters include electric cable of 4 m with Exd glands.

On request we can supply longer cable.

Flameproof enclosures ATEX-IECEX

Our flameproof enclosures are intended to contain dangerous electric components for vehicles or engines installed in hazardous areas (ATEX).

We manufacture our enclosures in steel or in stainless steel (for harsh and heavy environmental conditions,for example OFFSHORE), allowing us this way, to manufacture any shape and size to fits our customer needs.

Our Exd enclosures are ideal for small spaces, because they are tailor made, under the customer request.

We can provide additional accessories: fans, dissipating fins, fixing point, hinges and handles.

Textile printing machines

Among the different systems textile printers use, the screen printing upon long table is the only one which actually ensures a perfect and uniform quality. This is because it uses the printing principle of wet-onto-dry.

In the past it was operated by hand, but now it is by a carriage moving along the printing table; this system offers:

  1. Maximum precision.
  2. The best flexibility which regard to runs and the ability to print an unlimited number of colour.

Definitely, screen printing involves the applied arts in the absolutely perfect reproduction of exclusive design.

The screen printing system may be applied to any soft material as well as to hard materials with a even surface, and it is being adopted by and increasing number of any type of fabric from finest silk to tufted carpets for plastic, paper, leather, etc.

At present, GALI has increased its range of printing machines incorporating flat screen printing machines for high production, roller printing machines of one cylinder for application of soaps and inks for non woven material.

Lyoprinter LM

The GALI LM screen printing carriage offers the possibility of the traditional printing which still stands for nowadays new trends. This allows GALI to respond to the needs of the industry of fashion and decoration, which demands a variety of products of high quality and exclusive designs.

The GALI LM screen printing carriage is suitable for any kind of fabric without the limitation of its composition, density or thickness. The most common applications are the printing on silks (scarves/ties) and upholstery in which quality is the main objective. It is also widely used in the printing of woollen shawls and stoles, lycra for bathing suits, home textiles and other multiple applications.

The GALI technological innovations over the years have substantially increased the performance of the carriage regarding its utilization, speed and precision and at the same time maintaining its high quality final results. Printing quality

The Lyoprinter LXP ensures:

Regularity of grounds and borders with even dye penetration all over the piece to be printed, thanks to the hydro-pneumatic squeegee stroke and the uniform pressure distribution onto the squeegee-holder (via up to 6 points of pressure).

Perfect repeat and register with exact repetition of all working sequences for each printing cycle, supported by the pneumatic screen securing system.

Precision of contours and profiles even the finest ones of the design, as the squeegee stroke can be performed, to this end, in one only direction.

Washing carriage

The GALI washing carriage, is an ideal complement which facilitates the job of cleaning the printing table surface. It is essential for the larger printing equipments and installations, as well as when frequently printing many different designs and/or for longer tables.

Automatic, simple and easy to use. The GALI washing carriage is offered in fully pneumatic version up to 1800 mm of printing width (until GALI type 12). For larger types of bigger printing widths, it is incorporated a small electrical motor to assist in the translation movement.

The corrosion protections employed in the materials ensure a long life of our washing carriage. The maintenance is reduced to the observance of the correct oil level and the replacement of the brushes as per its wear.

Extender carriage

The new model of the cloth extending/doffing carriage is a further contribution of to rationalization in screen printing upon long table.

Fully automatic, it is driven by compressed air only and, therefore, any risk inherent in electricity (short circuit, electrocution, etc.) is excluded.

The use of special coatings, plastics and stainless steel ensure resistance to the ambient humidity of printing shops.

The operation is reduced to placing the fabric core upon the support bar, pass the fabric end over the guide bars and push the start-button. For doffing, the working sequence is to be inverted.

Maintenance only requires the oil consumption to be supervised and the oil level to be kept topped-up.

APPLICATIONS

The extending/doffing carriage can be parked at either table end (where the top covering could be renounced to), but as a rule it is removed and placed on a Transporter for eventual use for another table.

For maximum precision printing, it is imperative that all of the production equipment, in which the table is a basic element, have to be of optimum quality.

The metal structured GALI table offers not only the adequate rigidity but the following advantages as well:

Corrosion protection.Plate sliders are used to allow the self-correction of the metal structure expansion caused by ambience temperature variations.Easy levelling as per the floor flatness by means of regulating tensors.

Our standard table consists of a modular metal structure and a top covering including a waterproof wooden panel covered with two layers of felt and on top a PVC plastic cover. The rails for the smooth displacement of our machines are incorporated into the table allowing a perfect alignment along the whole table.

As optional, and to get a better quality printing results, we can install our traditional blanket fully electric.

Now GALI also can offer the option to install our table with the steam drying system.

With this option the covering of our table consists of a thin wooden panel and a chamber where all necessary steam pipes are installed. The chamber is covered by a galvanized sheet metal of 3 mm thickness, and on top, we install our felt and plastic cover.

Air booster RV2 & RV3

This GALI air booster has been developed for converting the low pressure of compressed air distribution circuits into 30 bar/435 psi (with 8,8 bar/127,6 psi) without necessity of an additional compressor.

It is of simple and robust design, works pneumatically, and does not require to be actuated by an operator. It starts working automatically upon the pressure drop in the air receiver and stops once the rated pressure level is achieved again.
