Bastini works with the IMPA encoding system. The International Maritime Purchasing Association (IMPA) was formed in 1978 by a group of purchasing professionals who wanted to create an industry "voice" to represent the interests of the shipping profession in the shipping industry and promote close collaboration and understanding between buyer and supplier. Over the past decades, the association has grown significantly and now has over 600 members from all over the world; shipowners, operators and purchasing managers, manufacturers and suppliers to the shipping industry. IMPA codes provide a universal coding system to facilitate communication between ships' crew, their owner/manager offices and their maritime suppliers. The most important mission of IMPA is close cooperation and mutual understanding between the buyer and the supplier. This has also always been one of Bastini's main goals.
